Particle – CERN LHC Quadrupole & Dipole Diode Stacks
Main features:
Nr. 1650 diode stacks: Protection to quench of D-pole and Q-pole magnets of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)
In case of quench, magnets will be protected by turning on by-pass diodes
The operating current of 11,8kA will then decay exponentially in the diodes
Part of the magnetic energy removed will cause a rise in the diode stack temperature up to 300K from an initial temperature of 4,2K
