Particle Physics / Particle Accelerators

Particle physics explores the fundamental structure of matter by colliding ions or subatomic particles at extreme energies in accelerator facilities such as CERN’s LHC (CH), Fermilab (USA), DIAMOND (UK), FAIR (DE), ELETTRA (I) and many others in the world.

These facilities depend on two critical power-hungry technologies: hundreds of superconducting or/and normal magnets that steer and focus the beams, and powerful radiofrequency (RF) cavity systems that accelerate the particles to near-light speed.

Both require ultra-stable, high-power electronics: magnet power converters delivering up to several kiloAmpere with ppm-level precision and RF power sources (based on solid state amplifiers or klystrons, tetrodes, IOTs) fed by high-voltage, high-current power supplies and sophisticated low-level RF control systems, solutions that OCEM Power has been providing and refining for decades to meet the stringent demands of this application.
